renal dialysis is a treatment that replaces the stock artificially purification patients with chronic renal failure. This treatment is a life support and is not intended to cure kidney disease. Specifically dialysis maintains normal levels of salts (sodium and potassium), removes waste products from the body and blood pressure control.
There are two types of dialysis:
* Hemodialysis
* Peritoneal dialysis
Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis
* Hemodialysis is performed in medical centers and is a machine that acts as an artificial kidney.
* Peritoneal dialysis can be performed in a medical center or at home, does not require special equipment and applied to the abdominal cavity for several hours and then drained.
There are three primary types of access to the blood:
* the intravenous catheter: The intravenous catheter connected to a large vein, such as the vena cava, femoral vein or internal jugular vein.
* The arteriovenous fistula, arteriovenous fistula is created by a cardiovascular surgery when joining a vein and an artery to create a path of greater size.
* The synthetic graft (graft): The synthetic graft is very similar to an arteriovenous fistula, with the difference that an artificial vein is used to collect the artery and vein.
The frequency of hemodialysis treatments three times a week with sessions lasting four hours a rule.
The frequency of peritoneal dialysis is determined by prescription, specifically for each patient, thus regulating the amount and type of dialysis fluid, as long as the dialysis fluid in the abdomen should stay and how many exchanges are needed.
Proper control of food and fluids ingested are very important to stay healthy during dialysis and the amount of waste that accumulates in your body can be leveled. It is advisable to monitor fluid intake taking into account that excess liquid can be extremely dangerous and leads to multiple complications.
It is noted that a dialysis patient can lead a normal life like other people as long as appropriate adjustments are made to take an adequate diet. The fact that a patient receives dialysis does not mean it cannot continue their working lives and productive.
